Bird monitoring activities

The LIFE project’s bird surveys, whose focus is to monitor corvids and raptors on the island of Tavolara, are ongoing. Additionally, the periodical monitoring of Yelkouan Shearwater nests in the control sites on Tavolara’s cliffs was also carried out. At this time of year, the adults take turns incubating a single egg; the bird not attending the nest engages in foraging flights covering hundreds of kilometers. Hatching will take place in early summer; the newly-hatched chicks are particularly vulnerable to rat predation.
